Who are we…
Alex was born in the village of Grandtully, In Highland Perthshire. Growing up on his family’s farm, Alex was surrounded by traditional Highland culture. His family have been farming the same land since the early 1700s and previously operated both illegal and legal whisky distilleries on the farm.
His career in tourism began as a 17-year-old when he spent two summers as a tour guide at Blair Castle, the historic seat of Clan Murray. Following this, he moved to Edinburgh for university, where he also worked as a tour guide in whisky, history and sport. More recently Alex returned to Highland Perthshire and spent time working at both Aberfeldy and Glenturret Distilleries.
Outside of work, Alex is proud to serve as a member of the Atholl Highlanders, Europe’s only private army, having been invited to join at the age of 20. Following in his father’s footsteps, he serves as a committee member for Aberfeldy Show, his local agricultural show and highland games. He is also a keen sports fan, having previously played Rugby, Curling and competed in traditional Scottish Highland heavy events.
